{"id":861035,"date":"2026-01-12T01:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.heraldnet.com\/business\/mike-fong-will-lead-efforts-to-attract-new-jobs-to-everett\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T17:08:49","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T01:08:49","slug":"mike-fong-will-lead-efforts-to-attract-new-jobs-to-everett","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heraldnet.com\/2026\/01\/12\/mike-fong-will-lead-efforts-to-attract-new-jobs-to-everett\/","title":{"rendered":"Mike Fong will lead efforts to attract new jobs to Everett"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EVERETT &mdash; Snohomish County&rsquo;s Executive Director for Economic Development Mike Fong has moved into a new role that places him in charge of building Everett&rsquo;s economic base by convincing companies that the city is a good place to do business.<\/p>\n<p>Fong will become Everett&rsquo;s senior executive director for economic development and opportunity starting on Feb. 9, the city of Everett announced in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everettwa.gov\/m\/newsflash\/Home\/Detail\/4338\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a> Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Fong, in an emailed response to questions from the Daily Herald, said he will be directing efforts to help existing businesses grow in Everett while also focusing on attracting new entrepreneurs and companies.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I know the city stands ready to deliver efficient services and supports that are necessary to create jobs and economic opportunity,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Fong will be joining the city of Everett ahead of the retirement of long-time city employee Lori Cummings, who is the current executive director for economic development, according to the city press release.<\/p>\n<p>Fong will remain in his county role until the beginning of February. He started in the Snohomish County position in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/michael-fong-818166b\/\" target=\"_blank\">January <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/michael-fong-818166b\/\" target=\"_blank\">2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fong has served as director of the Washington State Department of Commerce from May 2023 to January 2025.<\/p>\n<p><em>Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Fong left his county role on Jan. 9.
